Last Year's Miracles

2015 was a pretty good year.

January was not too amazing. My daughter Laura was  still in the throes of some illness for 2 years, that no one could seem to identify or treat. She was suffering from constant pain,  nausea and vomiting every day, all day, and unable to hold down any meds or food.  We went from ER to DR to Clinics, and they ran all the tests from X-rays, CT Scans, MRI, Ultra Sounds, Endoscopy, and Colonoscopy and found nothing they could attribute to this ailment. My girl went from a chubby mother of 2, to a skeletal figure of herself, losing over 100 pounds.  She will probably at the age of 34 lose her front teeth from all the damage the acid from vomiting has caused.

At our wits end, and my fear for her life and well being,  we did find her another clinic, funding not an issue. They sent her to another gyn physician, who suggested this may be Endometriosis, and that the only real cure is a hysterectomy. Laura was ok with that, as she had her son and daughter, and no plan for more children. We got a referral to a specialty group, as my daughter is also considered High Risk patient, as she had a history of being born with a defective aortic valve and a VSD, ( hole in her heart), and had open heart surgery for that when she was 13. She still has WPW ( extra node in her cardiac pathway) that could result in a very rapid and fatal heart beat, and has had a blood clot in her past.

We go to the appt for pre-hysterctomy consult, and when they test her with blood work including pregnancy test.. well, she is now pregnant.

Alrighty now...    She is presented with her choices.. abort and get hysterectomy now, or have a baby..
Well, we are Christians, and I guess we raised her well.  We respect life, and realize that this baby is already a miracle created by God, under harsh conditions, and she chose to have this child , as long as the child appeared to be healthy enough to live a good life. Sonogram scheduled immediately, and of course, early on, all seemed normal. We are and I do say we, as I have twin daughters, she is one of them, and I always feel the pregnancy and child birth. LOL. We told the Dr that the baby still needed his " womb".

They say that during the pregnancy, the endometriosis will end, and it is dependent on estrogen, which does not produce during pregnancy. Well, that sounds good, unless you are also prone to hyper-emeisis gravida which meant throwing up excessively through the entire pregnancy, which, yeah you guessed it, she is.

Despite all this, all seemed well for the baby, during the pregnancy.  I decide to throw her a baby shower, as her last child is 9, and they had nothing for a new baby. I invited family, of course, and decided to see if I could find a few of the gals they grew up with, and had not seen in years..  I found four of them, and messaged them via Face Book, and 2 of them were very excited to come. I was delighted, as it would seem that so far, she had no idea about my plans, so, double surprise!!!

We told her we were having a family BBQ, and she did not catch on until she arrived at my house, asking. um, why isn't the BBQ on yet? Surprise!!

We had a nice party and I made a diaper cake, and a fruit baby stroller, among other goodies.

We played all sorts of shower games, and had prizes, laughs, memories, and Laura got everything she would need to bring home the baby.

3 days later... 8th months along, I get a phone call saying." Mommy, I think I need you." Why, I ask, what is up? " I am having pain about every 5 mins in my lower back and around to the front" UP  go my mommy antennae. " I will be right there!"

I arrive a few mins later, and she is waiting for me outside her home. I take one look and I KNOW.. we are having a baby.. I place plastic bags on my passenger seat, along with some opened baby diapers, sit her in and OFF WE GO!  Tampa General is where she has to be as a High Risk OB patient, as she also has had pre-eclampsia and has hypertension as well. Yeah, my baby having a baby is a mess.

I spot an ambulance en route and follow it closely, in case I need to honk them down for help We arrive at the ER safely, and we have a wheel chair to haul her up. ( She never went into labor with her other 2, when was induced both times, so had no idea what natural labor felt like.)

Admitted to an OB room, and checked by nurses who state, she may not be in labor, but, is dilating a little. 5 mins later, the declare birth is IMMINENT, she is fully dilated, get a doctor in here immediately, move her to deliver room stat.

Dr strolls in pulling on some gloves, takes a look, and Laura screams "I NEED TO PUSH NOW!" Dr yells back," Please don't, I need to get my mask on!" " Laura says " do it now!" Dr barely gets mask on and Laura gives one little push and tad ah! Here is the baby boy we have been praying over!!!
My eyes go from her face to the baby between her legs, I am checking for breathing, I am looking for all arms, legs, fingers, toes to be there, I am thanking God for our miracle. He is only 4.5 pounds, but, he is beautiful and doing fine so far.  Then I see the blood pouring out of my daughter and point to the nurse and the Dr and say, that looks a bit profuse to you?

The baby nurses take the baby to work on him, and the Dr says, we can fix this. And she inserts her arm , up to her elbow in my daughter, and swishes around several times, removing blood and clots. Now, mind you, I am a retired Medical Professional. I have assisted in emergency open heart rescues, and yet..  um, I was feeling a bit woozy and my daughter was asking if she was going to die.

It took over an hour of med inserted and a few more " sweeps", but that got under control, thank you LORD!

The baby nurses ask me to cut the cord, and I do. They bring Jacob Anthony over to his mama for the first time, and immediately prop him to her breast.

She holds her little miracle baby boy, with joy and relief.

Little man is kept in NICU for a few days, and breastfeeding was not successful, as he was so tiny. Laura pumped as much as she could for him, but, he did end up on formula made for him. He was thriving and gained a few ounces and they had us take him home on the 5th day.  We are ecstatic.

21st grandchild..no less emotion .. I am in LOVE.

More miracles... the pregnancy seems to have cured my daughter of the Endometriosis, which is medically proven. God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good.

More great things about Last Year in upcoming blogs...
